Attitude Adjustment
I had an attitude adjustment this week and it has really made my life so much better.
I had been struggling with one area of my life and it was affecting every other area. I found myself grumbling and complaining, being selfish and easily frustrated. The negativity didn't fit me and I felt so out of sorts. I had been trying to handle the issue myself and finally broke down and shared it with my prayer group. As we were leaving, one of the women asked if I had been listening to any teaching on the subject. The answer was no. So I went right to my podcast library and found just what I needed.
Joyce Meyer has been one of the most influential teachers in my life. She has teaching Cd's and podcasts on every subject pertaining to everyday life and God has anointed her to bring understanding without condemnation. If you want access to her teachings (many are free) go her websight at http://www.joycemeyer.org/home.aspx
I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]
John 16:33 Amplified
We all face struggles and tough times. We will experience persecution, betrayal, rejection, sickness, and heartache but Jesus has overcome it all. There is nothing you are facing that Jesus cannot take care of. He has given you victory by giving you the wisdom and strength to get through it.
When we are hurting or facing something that seems impossible it is so easy to let our feelings carry us along but even in that, Jesus has given us the ability to hold our emotions in check and respond based on what we know instead. We can hold on to what we know to be true like this promise and refuse to be bossed around by our feelings.
Jesus has deprived the world of it's ability to harm you. In this physical world we will experience very tangible problems like accidents and sickness that can impact our body's ability to function but even in this, who we are, our spirit, is untouched and we can let our confidence in Jesus to keep His promises lead us through.
You are the only one who can choose your attitude. You alone are responsible for your words, thoughts, and actions. Just because things don't go your way and you don't feel right does not mean you cannot do the right thing.
Are you struggling with something or someone? Do an attitude check and make sure you are not letting your emotions dominate you.
Since Jesus went through everything you are going through and more, learn to think like Him. Think of your suffering as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you will be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want.
