Our Hope

Hope has been on my mind lately.  The verse below found in Lamentations is part of the passage I've been meditating on (Lam. 3:21-26).

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.
                              Lam. 3:22 NIV

God loves us.  In fact, He loves us so much, He decided to do whatever it takes to help us separate from our sin so that we could hang out with Him.

Our Heavenly Father chose to send His one and only begotten Son to live on this earth as a man so that He could defeat the power of sin over us, making us pure, holy and acceptable to Him.  It is through Jesus Christ that we enter and live in the promises of the Lord God Almighty.  There is no other way (John 14:6).

It is because of the Lord's mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not.
                              Lam. 3:22 Amplified

Without Jesus, our sin keeps us apart from God and that is not pleasing to Him.  God wants us with Him because He loves us so much.  Jesus is the only one who could fulfill the demands of the whole law of the Old Covenant perfectly.  This is why our hope rests in Jesus and not our own abilities.

God has promised His unfailing love will forgive all our sin through Christ.

As we accept our strengths and weaknesses and learn to rely on what Jesus has done for us instead of ourselves, we find our lives transforming and our hope strengthening.

Our hope is not based on our performance but it becomes rooted in Jesus who took the punishment for our sins - saving us from eternal death which is separation from God.

We cannot be consumed by our sin (or anything else for that matter) because of our hope in Jesus Christ.

There is no need now to fear our sin as our hope in Christ sets us free to live as one with God.
