Silent Hope

Throughout the 20 years I have known Jesus, I've accumulated several memories that consist only of Him and I just sitting together.  His presence fills me with a peace that passes understanding and a calm that strengthens me for any struggle.

In talking about hope and silence this week I am reminded once again of the many benefits that are ours because of our belief in Jesus Christ.

One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.
                              Psalm 27:4 NIV

Every time I read this verse I pause and enjoy the presence of God and acknowledge my gratefulness for all He has done and continues to do for me.

God is always with us but quite often we forget to acknowledge this.  We get so involved and busy with our days and the things going on that we forget we always have Him with us.  I spent a lot of time beating myself up for this until I realized that God does not just want my allegiance, He wants my heart.  He does not want mindless obedience, He wants a personal and intimate relationship.

When we remove religious obligation from our lives, we are free to enjoy our relationship with our heavenly Father.

Our relationship with the Lord is the same as any other relationship we have in that it requires us to invest time in it.  Relationships cannot grow without the investment of time from both parties.  God is always with us and He has done everything He can to establish and maintain a relationship with us through Jesus Christ.  Now He simply waits for us to engage our hearts in the relationship.

Our time with God does not have to be constantly filled with words or activity.  The true beauty of silence is found when we sit with Him.  Quiet moments focusing on God unleash the fullness of His beauty to our hungry hearts and satisfies our spirit's longing for Him.

The time we spend just hanging out with God is where we find the clarity and wisdom we need to navigate life.  We are strengthened to take the next step.  We are comforted in times of sorrow.  We find peace in times of chaos.  We are reminded of God's faithfulness and His great love for us and our hope takes flight on the wings of joy.

I'm sure now I'll see God's goodness in the exuberant earth.  Stay with God!  Take heart.  Don't quit.  I'll say it again:  Stay with God.
                              Psalm 27: 13-14 Message

Joy, hope, and peace multiply when we simply sit with the Lord.  Everything we need to make good choices can be found when we separate ourselves from the hustle and bustle of daily life and focus on God.

Allow your heart to feed on the presence of God and your hope will grow stronger.
