Forgiven By God
On the cross, Jesus prayed for our forgiveness.
Jesus prayed, "Father, forgive them; they don't know what they're doing."
Luke 23:34 Message
Our sin was completely removed from us by these words. Can you imagine a love like that? A love so great that even in excruciating pain there is still a cry for mercy towards you?
God could not stand the separation from His people caused by sin. His love for us is so great that He decided to do whatever it would take to remove that distance and bring us close to Him - even if it meant giving His one and only begotten Son as the sacrifice.
Blood has to be shed for the forgiveness of sin per the Old Covenant Law. For this reason, animals were used as sacrifices to gain God's pardon. The problem with this was that the blood of animals was never enough. The ritual had to be repeated over and over and could never fully clear the stain of sin. I must also point out that the sacrifices were done by imperfect people who first had to sacrifice an animal on their own behalf before they could do so for others.
The blood of Jesus has the power to completely remove and erase every speck and stain of our sin because He was a perfect man who had been tempted just like we are but endured without sinning. Because Jesus was fully man and fully God, the shedding of His blood and the giving of His earthly life was able to overcome and defeat for all eternity the power of sin and death on behalf of anyone who believes in Him.
The forgiveness we have been given by God cannot ever be revoked. No sin is too big that it cannot be washed completely away from the sight of God. All guilt and condemnation has been taken away from us as well through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Jesus gave us a total pardon and sealed the deal with His last words on the cross, "It is finished." Every payment demanded by the Old Covenant for sin was paid in full. There is no leftover debt for us to carry around. God's forgiveness toward us is given freely as a gift without any strings attached.
"...I will wipe the slate clean for each of them. I'll forget they ever sinned!"
Jeremiah 31:34 Message
When God says He has forgiven us, He means it. He will not remember our sin. God's love for us does not allow Him to pay attention our faults (1 Cor 13:5).
There is nothing we can do to earn God's mercy. The only way it can change our lives is when we accept this great gift He has given us and make it part of us.
Receive God's forgiveness for all your sins and let go of all the guilt and shame you are needlessly carrying around.
