Just For Fun
I've talked to several people this week who don't make time to enjoy themselves. Our lives have become so full that we often just run from one activity to the next and flop into bed exausted at the end of the day. Life is too short to work it away and sadly many people are so busy doing for others that they neglect to care for themselves.
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
John 10:10 Amplified
One of the keys to having and enjoying this life that Jesus has given us is to balance work and fun. Finding time to have fun can be very difficult with the chaotic schedules we have but it's important to our overall health and growth. We work hard! Making time to play balances out the effort we put into doing a good job.
We need to do things just for the fun of it.
Taking a break from the frustrations of life so we can spend time with God, connect with others, and enjoy ourselves is vital. All to often though, guilt prevents us from doing the things we love to do. We feel selfish when we make time for ourselves. These are lies that when you give in to them prevent you from enjoying yourself.
We need to reward ourselves for reaching goals and doing a good job.
So let's say time was not an issue. Let's say that every week you could do one or two things as rewards for working hard the rest of the time. What would you do?
The question has stumped several people this week. They stopped, paused, and said, "I don't know." This saddens me. It's not wrong to have fun or reward yourself for hard work.
I challenge you to create your own rewards list and at least once a week do something that just makes you happy. To help you get started, here are some of the things on my list:
- get alone with God
- read a book
- go for a walk or run
- drink a glass of tea on the front porch
- have a cookies n' cream ice cream in a waffle cone dipped in chocolate
- watch a movie
- get a pedicure
- go to the shooting range
- spend time with my grand daughter
- have a tea party
- sit at the lake and drink a pop
You get the idea. Make your own list and do something just for fun this weekend.
Fun is as necessary for life as work.
