Let It Shine
Earlier this week I heard a friend's amazing testimony for the first time. My thoughts immediately began down the path of disqualifying myself of ever giving my own testimony. The comparisons I made between her story and mine caused me to think that the story of God moving in my life was not good enough and that it would not help anyone. But I was wrong.
No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on it's stand, so that those who come in may see the light.
Luke 11:33 NIV
God uses every person to reveal Himself to others. He does not care as much about our mistakes as we do because He uses them to inspire others to get back up and keep moving forward when they fall down.
In John 8:12 Jesus reminds us that He is the Light of the world and that when we choose to follow Him we will have His Light. The light of Christ dwells in, lives in, the heart and life of every person who trusts in Him.
Jesus does not fill us with His light for our benefit alone. No, our reliance on Him keeps His light shining brightly within us so that we and anyone around us can live free from darkness. We are the carriers of Jesus' light into every place we go. His Light shines through our lives helping others to see the way to Him.
Every single person has their own story of how God has touched their life and made it better. In sharing our story we reveal the light of Christ to others who may still be stumbling in darkness. The verse above from Luke reminds us that God does indeed have a purpose for each one of us, that we matter to Him.
Too often people think they have nothing to give because they don't have what someone else does. As we can see from today's verse, that is not true. Through Jesus Christ, each one of us has something unique and special to share with those around us that will help them on their walk with God.
Next time you find yourself saying why you can't, stop and look at why you can.
Jesus gave you His light to share. Don't hide it. Let it shine.
