Thirsty
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
Psalm 42:1-2 NIV
I love my quiet times with God. These are the most initimate moments in my life. I can completely open up all of my heart to God and let Him love me.
God is very personal. He knows us better than we know ourselves and His love for us never fails, never weakens, and never ends. In fact, His love for us is so great that He gave us the ability to choose Him or not. In the Book of Deuteronomy, God says He has given us the choice to have life and know Him or to choose death and live apart from Him.
As believers in Jesus Christ, we have chosen life. And life is a moving process. It is a journey of growth and preparation for our eternity to be spent with God.
Even though we hunger and thirst for more of God, we have to choose to seek Him and choose to spend time with Him. There are times at the end of a long and busy day that all I want to do is find some kind of mindless entertainment and veg out. But I have found that if I open my Bible and seek God instead that I am refreshed and energized instead of wore out and tired.
I plan for time alone with God everyday. It is just part of my morning routine. When I first decided to get up a little earlier so I would have time with Him, it was hard. But I wanted my actions to reflect the love and desire in my heart for God so I would get up anyways. I have to be honest here and say that there are some times that I would fall asleep during these moments but as the years have gone past, it rarely happens.
Like many of you, I talk to God through out my day. But these moments alone with God satisfy the deepest desires of my heart for intimacy and strengthen me to withstand the storms of life. These are the times that God speaks to me and because I have shut everything else out, I can also hear Him and feel His presence.
Just recently I got a few extra hours on a Tuesday and I took the opportunity to go sit at the lake with my Bible and my journal. The unexpected time with Him helped me sever the root of insecurity that I have been dealing with. This was a huge break through for me as I have battled it all my life but had not recognized how badly it kept me crippled.
I encourage you today to set aside some special time for you and God. Do it on a daily basis and discover for yourself the joy of knowing God .
