Still - Psalm 37
Life today is often called a 'rat race' and it's easy to see why. We rush through our days often doing more than one thing at a time and fall into bed exhausted for a few hours of sleep only to get up and do it all over again. We base our success in life on how well we measure up to others and when we think we are lacking, we try to do more. Stress builds up when we live like this and takes it's toll on our health and our relationships.
Thankfully, with Jesus in our lives we can stop all this madness and find peace and restoration.
Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.
Psalm 37:7 Amplified
In the chaos of life we have a refuge, a place we can go to escape and get refreshed. That place is the arms of Jesus Christ.
Jesus invites us to come to Him when we are weighed down and struggling (Matt. 11:28-30). He promises us rest and peace for our souls. Sounds delightful, doesn't it? But how can we find it with our lives so full of being busy? By being with Him.
We have to make time for Him. There is no way around it. Without setting apart some time for Jesus everyday, we will miss out on the peace He has for us. Taking the moments between tasks to focus only on Jesus and constantly looking to Him will bring the peace passes understanding into our lives.
Be still.
Two small words that can be so very hard to do. But when they are done - watch out! They unleash the power of the presence of Lord in our lives giving us the wisdom and strength needed to handle anything that comes our way.
Those moments when we shut out the world and focus only on Jesus are the moments that bring us strength, peace, joy, and rest. We find renewed energy and great wisdom when we make the time to just sit with Him.
It's important for us to wait on God. When we try to make things happen based on our perceptions, we are using our energy to create great frustration and we get in God's way.
God has a specific plan for our lives and we won't know what that is if we spend all our time trying to be like other people instead of seeking and following Him.
Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for Him to act. Don't worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.
Psalm 37:7 NLT
Refuse to leave His place of rest in order to try and take care of things yourself.
In His presence is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). Make the time to get you some!
