Trust - Psalm 37
Before I begin today, I want to share with all the regular followers of the blog that I will be out of reach for most of the summer. There will still be posts on the blog but they will be hit and miss until the end of July. Don't give up on me or stop looking for posts. Even though I will be out for a while, know that I will be praying for you and there are over 400 posts available here that you can search through for help and inspiration. Thanks for your patience. Now let's get started.
I have been reading the Psalms lately and I have found a passage of verses I want to spend some time on. Over the next several posts, we will be looking at Psalm 37. Read this daily with me and let's see what God reveals to us.
Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.
Psalm 37:3 Amplified
I know the Amplified translation is wordy but let's break this down.
Trust in the Lord. Lean on the Lord. Rely on the Lord. Be confident in the Lord. In doing these things, we do good. In doing these things we are taken care of, we are fed and protected.
God has a specific place and purpose for us. While many people think this means a position with a title, fame, more money or a big 'ministry' that is not what is most important to God. While our society under values the importance of small simple things, God does not. In fact, He does not measure or value things or people like we do.
God puts us in a place of great honor in His eyes. A place that is special and sacred to Him. God places us in His family.
Our place in this world is fully described in the greatest title God does give us... that of His child. We have been adopted into God's family through Jesus Christ. We are now God's children, special and wonderful in His eyes. But our role as a child does not stop there.
Jesus says we are to come to God as a small child (Mark 10:15). We are to have the expectations and trust and receive the kingdom of God as a child does.
Our purpose as His child is to overcome and defeat the lies of the devil that prevent us from living in the freedom that Jesus died for us to have. We all have our own set of misconceptions about ourselves, others, and about God. Because we are His children, God will teach us to recognize those lies so we can get rid of them and replace them with the truth of His word.
The more we trust God and rely on Him and lean on Him and expect Him to keep His word, the more we see how much He is involved in our lives. There is nothing that escapes His notice and nothing that can cause you lasting harm. No matter what the situation may look like to you, God has a plan to take care of it and will work it all out for your benefit.
Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
Psalm 37: 3 NLT
Trusting God keeps us safely in His land (His place for us) and allows us to feed on His faithfulness.
You can count on God. Trust Him with everything.
