Words of Kindness

Words have power and how we use them is important. Keeping our words kind even when our emotions are raging is one of the ways we can demonstrate the love of God for people.

A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks down the spirit.
Proverbs 15:4 Amplified

Think for a minute about how you talk to people. Do your words express love? Do they show respect for the person you are talking to? How about when you get irritated or angry? Even in times of frustration, we must choose our words carefully.

Our words can build up or destroy the person we are talking to. I grew up in a home full of harsh hateful words. Those words shaped me. I constantly felt inadequate and I would not really try to do anything for of being ridiculed.

God's only language is love and from Him we can learn how to keep our words gentle (no matter how we feel) and still express our thoughts or concerns.

Jesus is our example of how to speak kindly even under duress. On the cross, He did not ask God to judge those who had tortured Him. He asked for mercy.

Choose your words carefully. Use them to give others strength.

Gentle words will encourage growth and impart wisdom.
