Come to Have
[For my concern is] that their hearts may be braced (comforted, cheered, and encouraged) as they are knit together in love, that they may come to have all the abounding wealth and blessings of assured conviction of understanding, and that they may become progressively more intimately acquainted with and may know more definitely and accurately and thoroughly that mystic secret of God, [which is] Christ (the Anointed One).
Col. 2:2 Amplified
The words "come to have" reminded me that knowing God is a journey. It is a process that continually takes you deeper and deeper into a relationship with Him and at the same time produces a freedom and a joy in your heart that cannot be contained, emptied or removed.
As I look back over all the years since I first met Jesus, I can see how God has slowly little by little, line upon line, precept upon precept taught me about who He is and who I am. I have begun saying that our relationship is like ogres and onions - there are layers. God met where I was and helped me become who I am and He did it by revealing one layer at a time.
Layers are the small steps we take each day to know who God really is and how much He loves us. They are also the many lessons that He teaches us on our journey with Him in this world.
When I first met Jesus, He appealed to my emotions because that was my area of greatest need. Over time He gently without judgment or condemnation helped me deal with past hurts, current hang ups and my character defects. He taught me how to use the sound mind He has given me and to be purposeful in all I do.
God teaches us one thing at a time, one step at a time. He moves at our pace in response to our pursuit of Him. God will not give us more than we can handle and will not leave our side. He helps us every step of the way.
Don't worry about where you are, how long it's taken you, or how you compare to others. Focus on God and knowing Him for yourself. Live with Him one day at a time.
Whatever you do, don't quit. Don't stop chasing after Him. Be persistent in having all that God has promised you. The more you seek God, the more He gives you and this results in a deep and personal relationship with Him that enables you to live out His promises in your own life.
Come to have all the abounding wealth and blessings that come from knowing God personally.
