Glory and Honor
God has done a great work in my life. He has removed my insecurities and opened my mind to understand His truths. He has shown me what real love looks like and proved to me that I am worthy. God has given me value and purpose when the world around me tried to keep me down and afraid. He alone has satisfied every desire of my heart for love and affection.
Just reading that paragraph makes me smile and without going into all the details, it gives an overall picture of how God has transformed me and my life and it provokes me to praise and thank Him for all He has done.
I am sure you can also look at your life and see where God has intervened on your behalf and done some very wonderful things for you and with you. Do you thank Him for what He has done?
He who brings an offering of praise and thanksgiving honors and glorifies Me; and he who orders his way aright [who prepares the way that I may show him], to him I will demonstrate the salvation of God.
Psalm 50:23 Amplified
Our praise and thanksgiving give glory and honor to God. They are how we acknowledge and remind ourselves of all that God has done for us. Basically, our thoughts and words of thanksgiving and praise keep us focused on God instead of ourselves and this stirs up gratitude within us which honors and glorifies Him.
The second part of this verse is intertwined with the first. Our obedience to God fits with our gratitude and praise of Him like a hand in a glove. It is our choice to obey God and it is when we do so that we find more reasons to praise Him. In our obedience we honor and glorify God with greater impact than our words alone.
Without obedience, our praise and thanksgiving to God mean nothing. Harmony among these three, however, reveals the salvation of God.
Part of living a God first life means keeping in mind a running list of all the great things that God has done and continues to do for us.
Choosing to obey God provides the substance for our gratitude and praise.
We give glory and honor to God through our praise, thanksgiving, and obedience.
