Goodbye Guilt
THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.
Rom. 8:1 Amplified
One of the biggest reasons people have for not fully accepting and living in the great love God has for them is because they still hold themselves guilty for past sin. God does not. So if God doesn't hold our sins against us then why do we? I believe it is our enemy the devil who whispers words to us reminding us of all we have done wrong in order to "stir the pot" and keep us from experiencing the love and freedom God has given us.
For most of my life, I carried heavy burdens of guilt, condemnation, and shame. Hauling this load around prevented me from really accepting the love God has for me. It was hard for me to understand how God could forgive me when other people in my life (as well as myself) would not let me forget what I had done. That's when God began to teach me that He is not like people.
God is pure love. There is no deceit or ill will in Him. His only motive towards us to love and bless us. Everything God does for us is ultimately for our good. Now there will be painful things that may happen to us along the way but those are not from God. Life happens and each person is given free choice regardless of how well or how poorly they use it.
The great news is that when we sin, Jesus is there to clean up the stain it leaves behind. He washes us in His blood so that we are once again spotless and blameless in the eyes of God. Jesus never condemns us. Our sin is no surprise to Him, He saw it when He hung on the cross. And just as He died and was buried, so was our sin. He took it with Him to be seen no more.
Knowing that God will not hold our sin against us is the first step in receiving the full the limitless treasure of His great love for us.
Every time guilt or condemnation try to come at you, refuse them entry in your life by repeating today's verse - there is now no condemnation for me in the eyes of God. Thank you Jesus.
Say goodbye to guilt and replace it with the love of God.
