More Than Feelings
When I think of the Apostle Paul, I think of a bold man who dedicated his life to reaching out to Gentiles. He wrote the most number of books in the New Testament and relied on God to meet his every need. But I found something out about Paul this week that surprised me.
And I was in (passed into a state of) weakness and fear (dread) and great trembling [after I had come] among you.
1 Cor. 2:3 Amplified
Paul had feelings of fear and dread??!! I had never noticed that before. That is completely opposite of what I have always thought of him and yet there it is in black and white. Paul was afraid when he went to Corinth and yet he did not let his feelings stop him. Instead he relied completely on God and taught the people with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Bible teacher, Joyce Meyer, always says, "Do it afraid" and that is exactly what came to my mind when I read this. I cannot count how many times I have not done, said or wore something out of fear. I even asked myself the question, "What would my life have been like if I hadn't let insecurity control me?"
We cannot change our past but we can our future one day, one step at a time. We have been given today and if Paul can do so much for God and help others while feeling fear then so can we. Let's take today and refuse to let anything except God hold us back. Let's step out with confidence in God and not in ourselves and live today based on more than feelings. Let's live today relying on God.
When fear or insecurity tries to block our way, we can count on God to help us ignore it and keep us moving forward. The Holy Spirit is stronger than our fear but we cannot see His power unless we first release our fear.
Choose to live based more on God's promises than on your feelings.
Live your life freely by the power of God's limitless mercy and grace despite how you feel.
"Do it afraid!"
