Growing Hope
Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance.
Romans 5:3 Amplified
God wants us to be full of hope and joy now. That can seem like an impossibility but I promise it is not. Jesus promised that in this world we will have trials and tribulations (John 6:33) but He has taken care of them all. Now that is something to rejoice over!
How can we keep our hope when the bottom falls out? Here are a couple of things that can help you get through the tough times.
Don't allow your troubles to become bigger than God's presence in your life. Jesus has defeated the devil and He promises that we will have victory but we have to keep our hearts and minds set on Him. Romans 12:2 tells us to keep our thoughts focused on God's word. Every time we let go of our thoughts and allow them to run wherever they want, they will sink to the bottom and cause us to feel discouraged and defeated. Find verses of scripture that pertain to your situation and when your thoughts start down the dark path of worry, bring them back to the Light of Christ by reading or speaking or thinking the verse you are standing on.
Hope grows as the result of our going through the tough times and that is why it is important for us not to quit. When we give up and let our problems consume us, we are making God smaller in our lives. God has no limits and He is bigger and stronger than anything we face. Nothing can defeat God. With Jesus on your side you cannot lose. You are guaranteed the victory in every situation. Only those who do not quit will receive the winner's prize (Gal. 6:9).
We all go through troubles and trials. We all experience heart ache and pain. We all stumble and fall. There is no such thing as a perfect life and no one gets their way all the time. This is a huge stumbling block for many people. They turn their back on God when they don't get what they want when they want it. Let me tell you that God will only do what is best for you. I have found that the hardest and most painful times of my life have produced the most precious things in my life. The most important worldly things in my life are the result of me not getting my way but God having His. I am not saying that God won't ever give you what you ask Him for but He may not give it to you the way you think He will or when you think He should.
When we go through the hard times trusting God to keep His word, we learn through experience how great is His faithfulness.
Enduring afflictions produces the confident trust that God is always at our side and He is very concerned about what is concerning to us.
Don't quit, don't doubt, and don't forget how big and strong God is. Nothing is impossible with God.
Hope grows over time.
