Never Disappoints

Today we come to the last verse in our look at hope.  Our hope in God is based on His ability not ours.  It is a confidence that even in the storms of life, God will not only help us through but He will work it out for our good.  We develop the habit of hope by experiencing God's faithfulness for ourselves.

Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.
                              Romans 5:5 Amplified

Our hope in God can never disappoint us because it is based on His ability and faithfulness.  God only wants to do us good.  He will never ask us to do anything that is not for our benefit.  He wants nothing more and nothing less than the very best for us.  Knowing, accepting, and believing this truth is the foundation of our hope in Christ.

God's benevolence toward us is not based on how good our behavior is.  The only reason He wants to bless us is simply because He loves us.  Jesus came and died, giving His life as a sacrifice for ours, as the proof of God's love for us.  By our faith in Jesus Christ, God has given us a free pass to have and experience all that He is through His Holy Spirit.

We put our hope in God, not to get our way but to have His perfect plan come to pass in our life.

Surrendering our will to God and allowing Him to work out what He thinks is best for us will open doors of opportunity that we could never have imagined.  God's view of us and our lives is wide and broad because He sees the big picture and He knows what we really need.  Our view of the world is limited by our senses.  What we want, think, and feel make up our perceptions of the world around us.  They can distort reality and cause us to want things or people who will ultimately be harmful to us. How many times have you thought you needed to have something (or someone) or do something only to find out once you had it or did it that you really didn't want or need it at all?

I spent many years of my life looking to people, positions, money, and things to make me happy and to fill the void in my heart.  None of it did.  There is no person, no amount of money, no position, and no possession that can satisfy the longing of the human heart to be loved.  Only God can do that.  Once we realize this, our lives begin to change and our focus moves from what we can do to what God can and will do in and through us. Here is where our hope does not let us down.

We cannot experience the hope that never disappoints unless our hope is in God alone.

Faith in God produces hope that never disappoints.
