Set Your Mind
The human brain is an amazing and complex organ. Even with all the technology we have today we cannot fully comprehend it. There is, however, a universal truth about the mind that cannot be disputed: the brain has great power. The thoughts that go through our mind influence and shape our words, our attitudes, our actions, and our reactions. They can help us move forward or hold us back. In other words, our thoughts determine our destiny.
The Bible says a lot about our minds and warns us about the dangers of letting our thoughts run out of control. Learning to control our thoughts is not easy. It takes diligence, patience, and time. But, we do have the promise that if we do not quit we will succeed (Gal. 6:9).
And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.
Col. 3:2 Amplified
Instead of me describing the difference between higher things and worldly things, I challenge you to spend some time looking at your own thought life. Pay attention to what your mind is focused on and decide for yourself what is helping you reach your full potential and what thoughts are holding you back and why.
Here are some different ways of saying "set your mind" and how to do it:
- choose your thoughts
- pay attention to your thoughts and how they influence your attitude
- ignore the ramblings of your emotions
- separate your feelings from your thoughts
- pick your own thoughts
- change your thoughts
- stay focused on what is right, good, and pure
- refuse negative thoughts about yourself or others
- refuse to criticize anyone including yourself
- refuse to compare yourself to anyone
The Bible says we can take every thought captive so don't give up. You can win the battle in your mind because all the power of God lives in you.
What you think about today determines where you will be tomorrow.
I'll be praying for you.
