Gift of Peace
What Jesus gives to us, no man can take away from us.
I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid.
John 13:27 NLT
Jesus gives us the gift of peace because He loves us and He understands our weaknesses. Jesus walked on earth as a man so that He could provide everything we would need to handle and overcome every situation we would face in our lives on earth. We have all been given the gift of peace for our minds and our hearts but it will not become part of our character without effort. What we do with the gift determines how much of it operates in our lives.
Many people do not have peace operating in their lives because they wait for it to drop down on them and magically "make everything better." But that is not how peace works. Peace is a gift that we have to develop in our lives. It requires effort and diligence on our part for it to mature.
Over time, through our experiences with God and our efforts to know Him, we learn how to stay calm in the midst of chaos. Letting our emotions run wild does nothing to help the situation we are in and leaves us exhausted. Plus, we are more likely to say or do something we will have to apologize for later.
Peace comes from the inner confidence in knowing that we can trust God to handle the circumstances of life.
If you are anything like me, your feelings will fight to remain in control but with diligence as you stand on the promise from Jesus that you do have His peace, you will defeat your emotions and learn how to live in peace no matter what the circumstances look like.
Allow peace to develop in your life by refusing to give in to feelings of inadequacy or fear. When your emotions start to escalate, repeat verses of scripture silently and out loud. Do it over and over until you calm down. Remind yourself daily that God's Holy Spirit lives in you and you have His peace.
The world cannot take your peace unless you let it.
There is no place for fear when you fill yourself with peace.
