Growing Until He Comes Back

[Live] as children of obedience [to God]; do not conform yourselves to the evil desires [that governed you] in your former ignorance [when you did not know the requirements of the Gospel].
                              1 Peter 1:14 Amplified

We are all children of God and like any parent, He wants us to obey Him.  As children we do this is not out of obligation but out of love. Everything that God has done for us has grown out of His love for us.  John 3:16 says that God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to pay the price for our sins.  There is no greater love than the love that gives it's life in exchange for the life of another.  Jesus gave His life for us and now He wants us to let go of this temporary physical life in order to receive an eternal life with Him.

We are called as children of God to live differently than the world does.  God asks us to treat each other the same way that He treats us.  He does not want us imitating other people, He wants us to imitate Jesus.  He wants us to love at all times and in all situations.  He wants us to learn how to control our emotions and allow His Holy Spirit that lives in us to lead and guide us.

There are only two commandments that Jesus said we needed to work at.  One is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, will, and strength.  The second is to love people the same way that He loves us.

God does not hold what we don't know against us.  Before we met Jesus, our ideas about love were skewed based on how people who said they loved us treated us and how it was portrayed in the movies.  But now that we know Jesus, we have seen and experienced what true love really is.  Now, we are responsible for treating each other the same way He has treated us.

God will not ask us about the choices that someone else makes.  He will ask us about how we lived and what we did with all that He gave us.  God will not hold us accountable for what we do not know.  But, if we claim to know something or think we know something and fail to live like it then He is going to deal with us about it.

With all this in mind, I want to spend a little time looking at love - what it means and what it looks like.
