He's Got You Covered
Iniquities and much varied guilt prevail against me; [yet] as for our transgressions, You forgive and purge them away [make atonement for them and cover them out of Your sight]!
Psalm 65:3 Amplified
We all do things wrong. We hurt people, disrespect them, gossip about them, and take advantage of them. None of us are free from sin. And yet, most of us think that God cannot possibly forgive what we have done. We put our sin in a hierarchy that God does not use or acknowledge. Then we place guilt on ourselves based on how bad the sin is and we bring it into every thing we do.
The guilt we carry around with us is based on our perception of "how bad" our sin is. But God does not see sin like we do. To Him, sin is sin no matter what we did. There is not one sin that is any worse than another. And He has removed the sin and guilt from us by the blood of Jesus.
The price that has to be paid to atone for our sin has been paid in full by Jesus Christ. God knew long ago that we would not be able to pay for it ourselves. He knew that there is nothing we can do to make up for our sin without His help. Jesus did for us what we could never do for ourselves.
When we confess our sin and ask for forgiveness, God removes it from His sight and He does not remember it at all. He does not hold grudges against us or punish us. Although, we will often times experience the consequences of our sin it is not punishment from God.
I used to carry guilt with me. I used to beat myself up and put myself down all because I had not fully accepted the sacrifice of Jesus on my behalf. It was such a foreign idea to me that there was no punishment for my wrong doing. It felt wrong to let go of the guilt at first but God patiently showed me again and again that when He forgives, He forgets.
If you are carrying guilt over anything, let go of it. Jesus has already paid that debt and set you free. He's got you covered.
God does not hold your sin against you.
