Moving On Up

We don't reduce Christ to what we are; He raises us to what He is.
                              1 Cor. 10:18 The Message

Here Paul is talking about communion and the transfer of spiritual power that occurs when we participate in it.  Too many times, we try to bring Jesus down into our mess.  But His plan and the purpose of communion is to bring us out of our junk and up to His level.

This can be hard to wrap our minds around because all to often we view God only on a human level.  We think of Him in human terms.  We limit God by thinking He is more like us as humans than we are like Him as spirits.

God is not a man.  He is not limited in any way.  Even Jesus, when He lived on earth in a human body was still fully God.  He is ALL powerful, ALL knowing, EVER loving.  He is everywhere at all times.

God knows everything.  There are no secrets from Him.  Just because you refuse to talk to Him about something does not mean He doesn't know about it.  As humans, we can hide things from each other.  We view our world from our perceptions and opinions.  We cannot see what is truly in another's heart.

God has no hidden agendas.  Through Christ, He has revealed His plan for mankind.  God is pure and He is love.  He cannot lie or deceive us.  Everything He does for us is for our benefit only.  On the whole, as humans, we lie and cheat people all the time.  We think nothing of pushing to get our own way and live a large amount of time focusing only on our own needs.

While God is nothing like us in these respects, He does understand us.  He does not want us wallowing around in these earthly messes without hope.  Jesus is our hope.  Through Him we can rise above our human selfishness and live a God like life.  He raises us up out of our messes so that we can learn how to be like Him in every situation.

Jesus enables us to move up and live a God first life.
