New Creation
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
"Has begun" - those two words tells us that our transformation in Christ, while completed in the spirit already, has to be walked out in the flesh. It takes time and diligent practice to learn to live as reflections of Christ.
This was very hard for me because I had lost sight of who I really was after living most of my life as a people pleaser. To say I wore a mask is an understatement. I would literally try to make myself a clone of whoever I wanted to be like or impress. It was pitiful and I was a mess.
But the Bible promises that God knows what He's getting when we come to Him. It has taken many years for me to discover who I am and looking back I can see how God has carefully and lovingly led me on the way. I could not see the journey for what it was at the time but looking back I would not change a thing.
Finally I am being me. I now accept others for being themselves. I refuse to allow suspicious or critical or judgmental thoughts to take over. I am free and I am happy. But it was a process.
Our path to actually living like the new creation that we are depends on our faithfulness to God. Do we constantly seek His will over our own? Do we wait for Him to lead us? Do we read and meditate and study the Bible? Do we honestly seek to treat people the way that God has treated us?
Every person's story will be different although we will have many similarities. But all of it begins with God accepting us as we are, loving us without fail, and leading us on the path that is best for us. We cannot make progress without trusting that God knows what He's doing and He has a plan that He will bring it to pass if we do our part and seek Him.
In actually living as a new creation we discover that our joy and peace come from deep within us and they have nothing to do with the circumstances of our lives. We discover who we are and how greatly God loves us.
God promises when we seek Him, He will be found. Seek God.
Discover who He is and in the process you find the new creation in yourself.
