Saved By Grace

When we talk about God's grace, we are saying that God has given us special privileges, rights, and abilities. He gives us His favor.  As believers in Jesus Christ, we are identified as 'His favorite'.  This alone is enough to fill us with great joy.  But when we call ourselves 'saved' - what do we really mean?  What are we saved from?

Our sin separates us from God.  Sin leads to spiritual death. But God knew that we could not save our selves from this separation and because He made us and loves us, He could not stand the thought of losing us.  To help us do what we could not do on our own, He sent Jesus to earth to take our place.

For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law’s demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.]
                              Ephesians 2:8 - 9 Amplified

Jesus met all the requirements of the Law for us to receive a pardon.  We have been acquitted of all wrong doing in the eyes of God because Jesus took our punishment.  Apart from the sacrifice of Christ, there is nothing we can do to earn God's grace.

The forgiveness we receive from God through Christ covers all our past sin and all our future sin.  It was paid prior to us being born and prior to us knowing God.  So whether you are a new believer or a long time friend of God, it doesn't matter, your sin has been removed from your account.

We cannot brag that this is something we have done for ourselves.  Salvation is a gift.  We could never earn based on our own works any of the gifts from God.  The only way to receive this gift is to believe that Jesus did it for us.

The full payment that was demanded by our sin was paid in full by Jesus, Himself and was given to us by God as a gift.  You cannot earn a gift.  You only receive it.  It is in receiving this gift that we can live without condemnation with God.

Salvation is not the only gift we receive through God's grace.  Through the gift of grace, we receive all the blessings of God.

God's grace saves us from having to pay the debt of our sin and allows us to live with Him for all eternity.
