Under Construction

We are all works in progress, our lives are construction zones.  When we first come to God and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live with our spirit.

But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].
                              Galatians 5:22- 23 Amplified

Notice here in the Amplified version that this fruit is accomplished by the work of the Holy Spirit within us.  These characteristics of God are developed in us over time.  Along the way, we will mess up, fall down, and struggle but the power of the Holy Spirit will continue to work in us, using all the life experiences we go through to make us a better outward reflection of God.

We are under construction.  God is working in us everyday.  He uses the circumstances and people in our lives to help us become more like Him.  The power and strength of His Holy Spirit enables us to learn and grow and change.  Nothing is impossible for us now.  With His help, we can overcome bad habits, changes old mindsets and control unruly emotions.

We learn to live with God first in our lives by allowing the Holy Spirit to teach, lead, and guide us.

Many of us get side tracked by what things look like in the here and now.  Our perceptions or thoughts of the situation can cause our progress to stall and in some cases come to a complete stop.  We have to remember to keep our eyes focused on God, knowing that He can see the finished product and we can only see one construction zone at a time.

When things are under construction, they are messy.  Stuff is out of place, you have to take detours and it looks like total chaos.  It can even seem overwhelming like it is too big of a job to complete.  But God (I love saying that!), but God has a plan and purpose for everything.  He can always see the end result and He will keep us moving in that direction.

Knowing that God had a plan has kept me moving forward when all I wanted to do was run away.  He has used some of the messiest and most painful moments of my life to develop His character in me and I have to admit that I am happier and freer than I have ever been in my life.

So, whatever you are going through and no matter what things look like to you, keep your eyes focused on God. Follow Him through your construction zones and allow Him to make the changes that are best for you.  Don't look at the mess and think it will never change.  Take one step at a time and respond to the Holy Spirit as He helps the fruit grow in your life.

Allow the Holy Spirit to supervise the construction zones your life.
