First Things First
O God, You are my God, earnestly will I seek You; my inner self thirsts for You, my flesh longs and is faint for You, in a dry and weary land where no water is.
Psalm 63:1 Amplified
The Bible is full of descriptions of how spending time with God can change and transform our lives. Through our time with God all His fullness, richness, and power are released in our lives and we become more like Him in every way.
There is no substitute for hanging out with God, no quick fix to your problems and no instant miracles. While God can fix anything and everything in the blink of an eye, the wisdom gained by experience is lost when we don't go through things relying on His help and His strength.
My entire life changed the day I realized that God's greatest desire was for me to live my life with Him first. I have no doubt I would still be circling that same old mountain of self focus and frustration had I not chosen to spend time with God that warm May morning many years ago.
Jesus said the most important commandment is to love God above everything else. He also promises that when we put God first in our lives - seek Him first, love Him most, and pursue Him above everything else - all our needs will be met. God will add all His riches to our lives when we make Him our number one priority and rely on His wisdom and live solely by His word.
The Kingdom benefits of peace, joy, satisfaction and fulfillment cannot be transferred to us unless we spend time with God, waiting and listening for Him. In our one on one time with Him, there are no rules or regulations. Just tell Him you are there, ready and willing to hang out with Him. Stay silent and listen for Him. Open every door of your heart to Him. I promise He will not break it or abuse it. He will not reject you or refuse you. Your heart is God's greatest treasure, it is what He values most.
Spending time with God is a demonstration, an acknowledgment of your need for Him. Nothing says I need you more than being willing to change your list of priorities and making God your number one priority.
When you put God first in your life and show it by seeking His presence, your life will change, your problems will get smaller and you will be stronger.
