Re-Gifting
Love is a gift given to us by God through Jesus Christ that was meant to be shared.
I give you a new commandment that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another. By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples. If you love one another [if you keep on showing love among yourselves].
John 13:34-35 Amplified
God's love for us is a growing and never ending gift. Not sharing what we have been given limits how much we can receive.
Think about getting yourself a glass of water. You stop pouring when the water gets close to the top. It cannot hold more than what it has. If you drink the water, then your thirst is satisfied and you have made more room in the glass for more water. The water has to come out before you can refill the glass.
God's love is the same as that glass of water. As we receive His love for us we become full. This is when our feelings tell us to stop. We don't want to give up what we have so we hold on to it and keep it to ourselves. But our thirst comes back, our hearts long for more love. Then our feelings tell us to look for it in all the wrong places - people or things or positions. Our thirst continues to worsen making us uncomfortable and now we get our minds involved.
Our minds think that since we already have the love of God in us and we are still thirsty that it must not be good enough or strong enough to satisfy us so we begin to blame other people for our unhappiness and complaining to God because things are not going the way we think they should go.
Like the glass of water though, we cannot quench our thirst unless we give some of God's love away. Every act of love we carry out makes room for more, new, and fresh love from God.
The Holy Spirit is ever ready to refill us. He is constantly waiting for us to give some away so He can put more in. Remember Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well that if she drank from Him she would never thirst again.
God's love is freely and endlessly given to us. It is not meant to be hoarded but shared. The Bible promises that the more we give the more we will receive and the way we give is the way we will receive. The love of God will quench our every desire as long as we keep allowing it to flow through us to other people.
Share the love of God with others by talking to them and treating them the same way God has you. Forgive those who hurt you because God has forgiven you. Be patient when you are driving because God is patient with you. Be kind to clerks in stores because God is kind to you. Say only nice things about other people because God only says nice things about you. Help others reach their goals and God will help you reach yours.
The gift of love God gives to us was meant to be re-gifted.
