Prepare Yourself
Our heart has a great impact on our life. What we keep in there does one of two things: either it helps us or it hurts us. When we allow God to live freely in our hearts, He will have us deal with painful things in order to remove their influence and power in our lives. By doing so, there is more room for Him to shine His light of love through us. But the process of going through is not easy. Then again we were not promised easy, we were promised victory.
If only you would prepare your heart and lift up your hands to Him in prayer.
Job 11:13 NLT
The purification of our hearts comes only when we purposefully put God first, seek His will, and obey His word. Therein lies the path and the key to overcoming every challenge and hurt we experience. Honest and sincere conversation with God.
We prepare our hearts by turning to and seeking God on a daily basis. It is easy for us to overlook just how much we need Him because of our human nature and the many demands in our lives. We were not made to carry all these things in our hearts nor were we intended to carry them alone. God is with us and He is willing to help us but we have to ask Him.
Our busyness is exactly the reason why daily time with God is so important. When Jesus said He is the Vine and we are the branches, He painted a clear picture of just how much we need Him. Within plants, much like the human body, there is a network of systems that move necessary nourishment to every part of the body. When the supply line is broken or damaged the area beyond that point doesn't not get what it needs to grow and be healthy. Picture a twig that has broken off a tree and how quickly it dies.
Jesus lives in us from the moment we confess our belief in Him but just like our hurts, He can be kept behind closed doors. Think of it this way, our heart is the home of God and in that home are many rooms. Our life experiences, thoughts, resentments, emotions, and memories fill those rooms. At the moment of our salvation we invite Jesus in but if we don't allow Him to move freely in the house then we basically leave Him standing in the entry way.
The daily time you spend with God will allow Jesus to move in your heart and help you overcome your issues and problems. Don't worry about facing everything in one day. You won't. It will take time and the love of God expressed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, will help you get through a little at a time.
When we don't keep our hearts open and receptive to Christ, we are unable to live the life Jesus died for us to have and we lose our ability to grow. Allowing Jesus full access to your heart through frequent conversations and quiet time with Him as well as reading your Bible keeps your heart prepared to receive all His promises and blessings.
There is no substitute for Christ in your life. You cannot truly experience the power of His love through the efforts of others. You have to seek Him yourself.
Your relationship with Christ can grow only when you spend time with Him.
Prepare your heart through prayer and God will do the rest.
