The Great Buffet

The moment of our salvation is the beginning of our eternal life with God.  What we look and act like in the beginning is not what we will be like at the end.

Like newborn babies you should crave (thirst for, earnestly desire) the pure (unadulterated) spiritual milk, that by it you may be nurtured and grow unto completed salvation.
                              1 Peter 2:2 Amplified

I often describe our walk with God as a journey.  The definition of journey is:  passage or progress from one stage to another (Dictionary.com).  Peter uses the similarity of spiritual infancy and physical infancy to explain how we grow through life on earth in preparation for eternity.  In other words, our spiritual birth occurs the moment of we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  The rest of our time on earth is spent in the process of moving closer to Him and becoming more like Him.

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation.
                              1 Peter 2:2 NLT

We begin our journey with Christ as newborns and grow to maturity in Him.  We grow through our contact with God and the pure spiritual milk that will enable us to grow is His Word.  Jesus is the Word made flesh and He is the foundation of our journey.  We experience the fullness of what has been freely given to us as we seek to know God more.

All our problems are not removed and we are not instantly healed and transformed into the image of God the moment we are saved.  Just as our physical bodies require time to grow, our spirits also need time to grow.  We have to go through the growing process and complete our own journey with God.

As we move towards maturity, it is important to note that we can stop growing anywhere along the way.  We can remain as spiritual infants not knowing anything about God for ourselves and not having His promises manifest in our life or we can choose to put forth a little effort and grow up by developing the habit of living God first.

None of us have already completed our journey and no matter how old or young we are in years, God still has plans for us.  Every day is a new opportunity to seek God and to reveal His love to a lost and broken world.  You don't need a degree or even a title to make a difference in the lives of people around you.  All you need is a heart full of love and gratitude for God and the willingness to let Him lead and guide you in this life.

Spend time daily feeding on the never ending supply of nourishment your spirit needs to grow - that is, the Word of God.  It doesn't matter how much you read or where you start.  Just start.  Read some, talk to God about it, and then think about it.  Take the time to focus on what that truth would look like in your life.  Ask God to show you how that verse applies to what you are dealing with or how it can help you in the future.

Make these moments with God a feast that you graze on throughout your day.
