Divided We Fall
We all do it... we make assumptions and jump to conclusions without knowing all the details. The Bible is very explicit in warning us not to fall prey to these thoughts.
Why do you criticize and pass judgement on your brother? Or you, why do you look down upon or despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God.
Romans 14:10 Amplified
There is only One who is qualified to judge anyone and it is not you or me. It is God - He is the only Who can do so. And yet, we do it all the time. We are quick to criticize without knowing all the details of the situation.
The bottom line is this. One sin is no different from another in God's eyes. He does not have a rating scheme saying that one sin is not as bad as another.
Sin is sin. Period. There is no grey area here. If you, sin and we all do, then we are all guilty until we repent. Human nature makes this hard to swallow.
We want to justify ourselves for the wrong things we say and do and at the same time hold grudges or pick apart others who sin in different ways then we do. Society has slipped in the church and convinced us to think that some sins are not as bad as others. We use this way of thinking to make our selves feel better about ourselves. The Bible warns us not to be deceived by this.
You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.
Romans 2:1 NLT
Without a rating scale on sin, we are all the same. The liar and the murderer, the thief and the adulterer, the speeder and the greedy - all are sinners. Those who are critical of others are usually doing it to avoid the detection of their own sin. The hidden motive being, "If I keep attention focused on what they are doing, then no one will find out what I am doing."
God is the only perfect One. There is no one else qualified to judge us because He alone can see and understand our hearts. Let's stop passing judgment on each other and learn to let God be God. We are not called to judge each other but to love one another.
There's an old saying, "United we stand, divided we fall." The Body of Christ is weakened when create divisions among ourselves. We can increase the strength of God's presence in the world when we seek unity by not being so judgmental of others and by pursuing them with the passion of Christ instead of judgment.
Unity gives strength but division weakens.
