So Much More
Have you ever wondered why God is so good to you even though you have made so many mistakes? I have. And when I first gave my life to Christ, it would make me feel extremely guilty. I stopped feeling so condemned when I realized that God's mercy is not intended to condemn me but to help me overcome my sin.
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?
Romans 2:4 NLT
The kindness and mercy of God are free gifts to us from the very One who made us. He alone can see and understand our hearts. He knows everything we have said, done and thought in the past as well as all the ones we have ahead of us. Knowing us better than we know ourselves does not diminish or decrease God's love for us in any way. In fact, it doesn't affect it at all.
God is kind, patient, and tolerant with us because that is who He is. The attributes of God cannot be separated from who God is. There is a pure and intricate unity in God that requires all His goodness to move in synchrony to us and through us.
There is no one like God. Our human minds cannot fully comprehend His infinite being. We can only glimpse small aspects of His great wholeness. We are unable to fully grasp just how big God's limitless "I AM" statement really is. That's why in the face of our sin, His mercy is so overwhelming.
God uses mercy to help us recognize that we can lean on Him when we are tempted and avoid sinning in the process. He knows we will not learn this truth overnight and He knows that we will continue to fall short all the days we walk on this earth. But His mercy is there to help us get back up and propel us forward on our journey of life.
Turn away from sin and look instead to God always gives us so much more than we deserve.
