Do What You Can

Before Jesus ate the last supper with His disciples, Mary poured expensive oil over His feet and dried them with her hair.  While the disciples were quick to criticize her, Jesus was just as quick to defend her.

She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time.
                              Mark 14:8 NLT

Mary did what she could.  She didn't worry about it being good enough or even what other people would think.  She simply did what she could.

God does not ask us to do it all or even to do it perfectly.  All He asks is that we do what we can.  He wants us to step out with a willing heart and do the best we can with what we have. When God puts something on your heart to do, refuse to entertain thoughts about what other people will say or think. Simply do what He asks.

We don't have to have a lot of money or the best stuff in order to used by God. Use what you have to reach out to others. A post-it note with words of encouragement can be the most valuable gift you can give to someone who is hurting.

The greatest misbelief about serving God is the one where we think we have to have all our messes cleaned up before He will use us. We can be used by God to help others even while we are working through our own issues. Our Father meets us where we are and He makes up for anything we lack. He uses us in our imperfect state to give hope to others that He will help them too.

Today, don't look for reasons to disqualify yourself. Accept what God says about you in His Word:

- You can do anything through Christ who gives you strength (Phil. 4:13)

- Jesus has given you victory over troubles in this life (John 16:33)

- God has a great plan for your life (Jer. 29:11)

- Mercy and grace are gifts to from God through your belief in Christ Jesus (Heb. 4:16)

- No weapon formed against you can prosper or stand (Isa. 54:17)

- Nothing can separate you from the love of God (Rom. 8:38-39)

Do what you can and let God take care of the rest. Stand on His Word and watch how He uses everything you give to Him to help people. You are an example to others of how God uses anyone who is willing, so don't give up.

Do what you can and leave the rest to God.
