First Is first

Life is hectic.  There are hundreds of things competing for our attention everyday.  You know what I'm talking about - kids, traffic, unexpected delays, sickness, and we cannot forget to mention getting sucked into a TV program or Facebook. With so much information and news at our fingertips, it can be hard to keep our priorities straight.  We may have good intentions of sitting down and reading our Bibles or talking to God but then life seems to get in the way.

Therefore, my dearly beloved, shun (keep clear away from, avoid by flight if need be) any sort of idolatry (of loving or venerating anything more than God).
                              1 Corinthians 10:14 Amplified

We fool ourselves when we think idols are only physical objects that we look at and worship.  An idol is anything we put before God.  This means it can be another person, a TV show, or even something good like serving others and working out.  Now God is not asking us to sit at home and read our Bible's all the time, so don't misunderstand what I am about to say.  But when we consider something more valuable than God in our hearts, that something becomes an idol.

God wants to be first in our lives.  This is not another thing to add to your "To Do" list.  God is not an obligation we have to endure.  He is alive and His Holy Spirit lives in us.  God wants an honest and vibrant relationship with us.

In John 3:16 we read that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that we would have eternal life with Him.  That is not the action of a tyrant.  It is an act of great and pure love.  You did nothing to deserve such a gift and there is nothing you can do to earn it.  God knew everything about you when He decided to put your sin on His Son.

God wants you.  He wants your love, your heart, and your honesty.  Don't worry about what you have done wrong, just turn to God.  Let Him have first place in your life.

You won't regret it.
