Perpetual Life

The moral standards in our society have become blurry and lax. Many people live only for themselves and are constantly chasing, with much frustration and disappointment, an appearantly illusive dream of happiness. The fact of the matter is this:  true happiness can only be found within us. Not sure that this true? Look at the Hollywood celebrities who despite their money and fame are living sad and broken lives.

Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members [and faculties] to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But offer and yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to [perpetual] life, and your bodily members [and faculties] to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness.
                              Romans 6:13 Amplified

Obedience to God is the foundation of the Christian life. Every time we refuse to do things God's way, it is sin. Every time we give in to our old habits, we give them more power over us and make it harder to stop doing them. God will always forgive us when we mess up but that doesn't mean we can refuse to obey Him.

We cannot live the promises of God without living in obedience to Him.

Jesus is our example of obedience. He submitted to the Father's plan to save us even though He knew He would be tortured and killed. Jesus chose to obey the Father instead of give in to His feelings. He chose to die for you as the payment for your debt to sin so that you could be adopted into the family of God and so you could have and enjoy perpetual life.

In rising from the dead, Jesus showed us that we can leave our old ways behind us and begin a new life with God. Our old way of thinking and living usually does not agree with the Word of God and we have to let go of old habits. Our emotions make this seem impossible but Jesus tells us that with God anything can change but we have to trust Him first.

The Bible says that God's way of living requires us to believe before we see. This is opposite of how most of the world lives. People think they have to see it before they can believe it. God promises that if we will believe He can do something and that He is willing to do it then it will happen. This is what a life of faith is all about. We no longer rely on our own efforts to make anything happen. Instead we confidently ask God to help us make any needed changes.

In relying on God's strength instead of our own, we can overcome anything in our past that is stopping us from having the life Jesus died for us to have. Old habits can be broken and emotions can be controlled with the help of Jesus Christ. No one is too far away for God to reach. Nothing is impossible for God.

With Easter weekend upon us, why not use our celebration of the resurrection of Christ as time to start over, to make changes, and really live as children of God.
