Kingdom Life

There are three elements to living a kingdom life that together form a threefold cord that cannot be broken: come to Jesus, listen to Jesus, and follow Jesus.

“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”
                              Luke 6:46-49 NLT

The first thing Jesus says we must do is come to Him. He can do nothing for us unless we are fully convinced that not only can He meet all our needs but He wants to meet them. This is the first step in receiving anything from God. We have to come to Him. Through Christ, God has already met our every need and paid the full price demanded by all our sin. He has done His part and now it is time for us to respond.

Once we come to Jesus, we have to make the effort to really listen to Him. God speaks to us in His word. He will give us exactly what we need when we need it but we have to be paying attention to what He says in order to get it. Listening can be quite a challenge especially when we have our mind made up about something (or someone) or if we have our heart set on having or doing something. Many people get so attached to the way they want an issue to be worked out that they miss out on God's best way.

Listening is more than just hearing what God says.  It is an intentional action that declares our commitment to Him and it closely followed by responsibility.  We are responsible for doing what God tells us when we listen to Him.. When we know that something is wrong and we do it anyways, we are refusing to obey God. The blessings of God do not follow disobedience.  All of His promises are poured out and into our lives when we obey His word.  We cannot have the blessings of God if we are not willing to submit to Him.  This is a tough lesson learn but the reward of joy always follows obedience.

God's promises are for whosoever will believe. But belief without corresponding action is meaningless. This powerful lesson taught by Jesus in Luke Chapter 6 is a reminder that our faith in Him has no power if we do not live according to His word.

Come to Jesus, listen to Him, and follow Him - this is how you have a kingdom life.
