Turn Away

The Word of God is full of life.  It is full of power.  It is all we need.  It is where we find the promises of God and His declarations of His undying and never ending love for us.

Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.
                              Psalms 119:37 NLT

I remember the first time I saw this verse - "turn away from useless things" jumped off the page at me and I spent several weeks trying to identify all the things that kept me from developing the intimate relationship with God my heart craved.

Turn away from useless things.

What things in your life are taking priority over God?  What are your eyes focused on most of the time?  What do you think about?  What do you say?  Do you pay attention to how you spend your time?  Or do your days just melt together in a blur of things that keep you spinning your wheels but don't get you anywhere?

Turn away from anything that interferes with your relationship with God.

In the book of Revelations, we are reminded to return to our first love.  Remember when you first met Christ and you were so excited?  Go back to that.  Look at the Word of God with anticipation.  Seek God on purpose and expect to get something from Him every time you meet with Him.

There is no magic formula here.  Each day is new and your time with God reading His word is no different.  Whether you open your Bible to random pages, follow a reading plan, or camp in one chapter or passage - anticipate receiving something from God.

Every word of scripture is inspired by God.  It will not lead you astray.  It will always take you to new places, new levels of intimacy with God, and new awareness of how great and precious God's grace and mercy are.

Don't confine your relationship with God in any way.  No matter what you were raised thinking about the "rules of religion" - allow God to have free reign in your life.  Let Him show you new things, teach you new truths, and give you more of Himself.  The only limits on your relationship with God are the ones you set.  God has no limits.

Turn away from anything that does not allow God to move freely in your life.
