Life Building
I have spent the first half of this year learning how God's word establishes the boundaries in which I can safely live. I am always amazed by God's patience as He reveals His truths to my heart. He doesn't always give me the big picture, He simply asks me to follow His promptings. Lately, the word "foundation" has been on my mind. What we build our lives upon is important.
It seems so much easier to look into someone else's life and tell them what they need to change and what they need to get rid of in order to have the life that God has promised them. But when it comes to looking at our own lives, it gets a hundred times harder. It get's painful and it get's personal. When God starts dealing with us about specific things that displease Him in our lives there is only one wise thing we can do - submit.
When I lived according to society's standards, I was always chasing my tail. I couldn't find peace and I was happy with nothing. I didn't treat people well and they were just as ugly to me. I insisted I get my own way all the time because I thought I was smarter than others. I had to do all the work because no one else would do it right or do it as good as I would. My old way of living left me exhausted, frustrated and even more insecure than I already was.
Over time and little by little, God teaches us at our own pace, how to live His word. Just knowing what the word says does nothing if you do not apply it to your life. We can believe God is real all we want but just believing is not enough to bring us the abundant life Jesus promised (John 10:10). The key to living and having the promises of God in our everyday life comes when we actually do what Jesus teaches us.
Through skillful and godly Wisdom is a house (a life, a home, a family) built, and by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation],
Proverbs 24:3 Amplified
I love the wordiness of the Amplified translation of the Bible because it opens my mind to more ways I can apply the Word to my life. Most translations simply say that "a house" is built on godly wisdom but here we are prompted to focus more on what goes on IN the house. A house is very different from a home. A house is just a structure but a home is a place where people build their lives. When I think of "home" I think of a safe place where I am unconditionally accepted with all my quirks.

God reveals His wisdom to us through His Word. Building our lives on what He says is how we establish a sound and good foundation. Jesus promises us in the book of Luke that when we do what He says our house will withstand every storm. Obedience to The Lord is the foundation of a good life.
The Word is all we need. Through the study and application of God's truths in our daily activities, we will build lives full of His promises.
Live the Word - live God first.
