Born Again

We all begin life in this world the same.  We are weak and defenseless with much to learn.  We are totally dependent on others for help and wisdom as we grow up and become adults.  The same concept is true of our spiritual walk with Jesus.

The moment we ask Jesus to be the LORD of our lives and we allow Him access to our hearts, our spirit comes to life.  Many people including Jesus call this being "born again." Our early walk with Christ is a lot like our human infancy in that we need other people to teach us how to live as a child of God.

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
                              John 3:3-5 ESV

Being born again is the beginning of a whole new life.  Jesus came to give us the opportunity to start over, to redo and improve some aspects of life, and to give us eternal life.  He removes the eternal consequences of our sin and shows us how to live free in Him.  He is fully aware of our inability to live sinless.  He is intimately aware of our inner struggles and hurts.

Through knowing Christ, we can learn to make better choices and live a better life.  Our new birth in Him enables us to let go of everything that hinders our growth and this means learning a new way of living.

I have not come to arouse and invite and call the righteous, but the erring ones (those not free from sin) to repentance [to change their minds for the better and heartily to amend their ways, with abhorrence of their past sins].
                              Luke 5:32 Amplified

Jesus says He did not come for the healthy but for the sick.  He came for those who have been deceived by their sin into believing they can never escape the pain and misery of their past. He came for the broken and downtrodden, for those rejected by the world, and those ignored by the pompous.  Jesus came to give us life and life more abundant, not just for our time on earth either.  He gives us gifts that we can keep for all eternity.  He did not qualify us for the promises with demands of perfection on our part.  All we have to do is believe Him and accept the gifts He gives us.

We cannot earn God's mercy or grace.  He simply gives them to whosoever will believe and receive.  We are all given opportunities to come closer to God and to live freely in His love.  But only those will take Him at His word and believe Him above everything will actually live the promises of God on this earth.

Don't let the gift of being born again sit idle in your life.  Put a demand on God's Word.  Make it personal.  Claim God's promises by associating your name and your life to those promises.  Not sure how to do that?  Here are a few examples:

"Thank you God for making Your favor go before me."

"Thank you Lord for healing all my sickness."

"I am the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus."

"I am a child of God."

"God has good plans for me, plans that give me a future and a hope."

"Jesus, You are my Strength, my Refuge, my Fortress, my Redeemer.  You are my joy, my peace, and the foundation of my life."

"Lord, I put all of my hope and trust in You.  I refuse to trust my own understanding of this situation.  I choose instead to trust your perfect plan for me because anything You do for me will far exceed the best I can do for myself."

Enjoy the many blessings that come with being born again.
