Help for the Drowning

Life is full of ups and downs and most of us live by knee jerk reactions to things instead of stopping to really think about what we are doing.

When you're in over your head, I'll be there with you. When you're in rough waters, you will not go down. When you're between a rock and a hard place, it won't be a dead end.
                              Isaiah 43:2 Message

When troubles come, and it will, we do not have to rely on our fickle emotions to get us through. We can choose to rely on God's power and strength instead.  Jesus said we would have trials and tribulations on this earth but He also says we can go through them with joy because He has overcome the world.

Unlike human beings, when God makes you a promise - He will keep His word.  If He says He will help you through the storms of life then that is exactly what He will do.  The real question is:  Do you reach out and take what He has given you and use it to help yourself defeat whatever is coming at you?

God's promises are for "whosoever will" and that means God has done His part already.  He has done everything that needs to be done in every situation.  He has provided all that you need in order to get through this storm.

The Bible promises us that the only way we can lose is if we quit.  There have been many moments in my life when I was faced with the choice of quitting or pushing forward.  Regret was close behind my choice to quit.  Greater strength and confidence developed when I stuck it out.

Instead of telling God how big your problem is, tell your problem how big your God is.

Jesus said in the book of John that we can be of good cheer in every trial of life because He has won the victory for us (John 16:33).  Don't talk yourself out of God's promises.  Hang in there through the tough times and when you don't understand.  Don't waste time trying to figure out how it will all be made right, just trust God that He will keep His Word.

There have been many times that I have had to repeat over and over a promise from God to stop myself from thinking about the issue I was facing.  By reading and re-reading His Word, I was able to keep my mind from freaking out.

When life gets overwhelming, run to the One who has given you the winners cup.  Run to Jesus Christ - read your Bible, recite a promise that applies to your situation.  Keep redirecting your thoughts back to God and refuse to let them get carried away in the waters of life.  He will get you through.

We can trust that God will always follow through on His promises.
