Power of Prayer

Prayer changes everything!

In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying, “Now, O Lord, please remember how I have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. And before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: “Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of my people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord, and I will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city for my own sake and for my servant David’s sake.” And Isaiah said, “Bring a cake of figs. And let them take and lay it on the boil, that he may recover.”
                          2 Kings 20:1-7 ESV

Notice that Hezekiah did not ask Isaiah to pray for him or with him.  He went to God alone.

"He turned his face to the wall and prayed."

Hezekiah didn't seek the guidance or input of anyone.  He went straight to the only One who he knew had the ability to change the circumstances - GOD.

Prayer can move every mountain before you.  It can be stronger than steel and softer than tears.  It is everything and it is all things.  There are four things from this passage that you can take away about prayer.

1.  God hears prayer.
2.  God heeds prayer.
3.  God answers prayer.
4.  God delivers by prayer.

Just as God heard Hezekiah's prayer, He hears yours.  God pays attention to our prayers.  James 5:17 says:

The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Even if the outcome is not what we thought it would be, our prayers are answered.  God always responds to us when we pray.  We won't always get the answer in that moment but He will answer us.  The prayer of Hezekiah changed the mind of God and he was granted an additional fifteen years of life and his sickness died through prayer.

Prayer is an exercise of the spirit.  It keeps our spirits strong and healthy and opens the lines of communication between us and God.  Nothing is impossible to the praying person because their faith is convinced that God will keep His word and bring forth the best outcome for them.

The power of faith filled prayer moves God.
