The Greatest Intersection of All Time

Everyday we are given hundreds of opportunities to make decisions.  Eat breakfast or skip it?  What do you want to drink?  How much will you have?  Who to talk to?  Which route to take to work?  Will you even go to work?

Every choice we make impacts our life.  Skipping breakfast may sound like a good idea but the stress it puts on your body creates lasting damaging.  What route you take to work will affect how long it takes you to get there.  Calling in because you don't feel like going to work will result in a smaller paycheck.  You may only talk to some people but not all of them will pay attention to what you are saying.  Your choices of food and drink are the fuel your body uses to stay in motion.  If you put junk food in all the time then the quality of your body's ability to function well is impaired.

What we do with our bodies today impacts our performance in both the short term and the long term. Eating a diet high in fat and not exercising are choices that many people make and that results in being overweight and out of shape.  Physical fatness causes our bodies to wear out and break down faster.  While it is not healthy for us to be physically fat, it is very healthy for us to be spiritually fat.

Spiritual fatness can actually increase and improve every aspect of our lives.  The health and wellbeing of our spirit begins at the Cross.

The Cross is the greatest intersection of all time.  It is where we get to choose between life and death, blessing and cursing.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
                              I Corinthians 1:18 NKJV

People tend to get caught up and paralyzed in the moment.  We want instant gratification, instant healing, quick fixes, and an easy life.  But Jesus tells us there is no such thing.

Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
                              Luke 14:27 ESV

This verse does not mean we are to live a life of suffering and lack.  What Jesus is saying is that we all have our own life to live.   You are not responsible for the choices of other people.  You are accountable before God only for your own life and the choices you make.

God does not wave a magic wand and make everything right and beautiful overnight.  The consequences of our sins are not removed from our life.  God doesn't let us travel the easy road because He knows that it is only in going THROUGH the hard stuff that we develop our spiritual muscles of character, patience, and integrity.

The Cross is the first intersection we come to in a life with Christ.  At the Cross, we are given the chance to start over and take the hard knocks of life and have them transformed into something strong and beautiful.  It is where we lay down our sin and receive the call of God.  It's where we choose to live a life more abundant or to remain in the mess we got ourselves into.

True transformation only comes through the Cross.

I used to be broken, hurt, insecure, and full of self-loathing.  But at the Cross, Jesus took those things from me and gave me health, wholeness, security, and self-acceptance.  I chose to follow Him.  I chose to lay everything down that did not agree with His word.  I chose to embrace His promises and make them my own.

Today, look at the choices you make.  Think about how your past choices have affected your life.  What areas have you not brought to the Cross?  Do you really want to be set free from your past so you can move into your future?  If your answer is yes, then your next step is carried out at the Cross.

Jesus says, "Come to Me" and we meet Him at the Cross.
