Looking Ahead
December is always a month of reflection for me. I look back on the year to see what I've learned and what I've accomplished. I look for growth and for areas that need more work. I also start looking ahead and thinking about the year to come. To help me grow each year, I have been using a tool called My One Word (myoneword.org) and since I started doing this in 2010, I have been radically changed.
God has done some amazing work in me and I want to share a little of that with you today.
This year was a huge journey for me in this area. God used My One Word to challenge and strengthen me in ways I never imagined I could grow.
The verse I stood on to help me stay connected to My One Word for 2013 was from the Old Testament.
And you shall BE holy to Me; for I the Lord and holy, and have separated you from the peoples that you should BE Mine.
Leviticus 20:26 Amplified (Emphasis mine)
My challenge was to simply allow myself to BE God's apart from my works. This was no easy task as I already told you I am a doer. But God (I love saying that!) was not going to leave me alone for this. He used several words that had the letters "BE" in them to challenge and transform me.
While I don't have the time here to go over every lesson from every word He used, I want to share with you where I started and where I finished.
God laid down the challenge for me to just BE His. The first word He used to help me separate my "who" from my "do" was - BElong. I BElong to God. I am not my own. I am His, paid for in full by the blood of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. What I do is not as important as who I am - I am God's.
Over the year, God helped me write the following prayer as my reminder to simply BE His.
I BElong to God.
I BElieve that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God who died to pay my debt to sin in full.
In response to God's great love for me, I choose to live in oBEdience to His Word.
I am His Beloved.
I am called to BEar fruit as I BEcome one with Him.
Each word had scripture and life lessons attached and although there were times I struggled, I grew stronger with each day. Through My One Word this year, I have learned to simply BE God's. The last two things God told in regards to My One Word were to BE open to His plan instead of my own and to BE willing to change what I think about things for His thoughts.
I have included the link to the My One Word website in the beginning paragraph if you want to check it out for yourself. There is also a book you can buy to help you on your way and it can also be found on their website.
I don't know yet what my word will be but I will share it with you when I know. If you decide to do this, I would love to hear from you.
Together, we can keep each other encouraged.
