Spiritual Disciplines 6
John the Baptist preached to Jews and Gentiles alike, calling all to stop living greedy, self-centered, and dishonest lives. His baptism was for the remission of sins only and he tells them of the One to come who will baptize them with something better than water.
John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose, He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Luke 3:16
John came to prepare people for the arrival of the Messiah. Today, his message still prepares us. He reminds us to keep our focus on God.

If we have stumbled and fallen, he encourages us to get back up.
If we have wandered off the path of God, he beckons us to return.
If we have wallowed in guilt or shame, he reminds us that we don't have to stay there.
No matter where we are or what we have been through, John reminds us that all we have to do is turn to Jesus. There is no pit too deep or problem too big for God. He is the Almighty God, the One True God, the Living God Who can bring you back into perfect fellowship with Him through Jesus Christ.
You are never out of God's reach.
The choice to stay where you are or to move into God's Light is yours alone to make. No one else can make it for you. God will never ask you about the choices another person makes. He will only ask you about your choices.
Don't let yourself get caught up in the comparison trap. We all have our own road to walk, our own journey to live out. Don't concern yourself with what someone else is or is not doing.
Above all, you must obey God and deal with what He asks you to take care of.
Live your life with God with abandon. Be bold. Be yourself. Don't try to be like someone else. Seek God and His plan for you. Repent for your mistakes. Repent for your sin. Turn away from your old way of living and embrace God's ways.
Two things will happen when you leave your past behind you and pursue God with all your heart:
1. As you seek God and find out for yourself who He really is (not who you think He is) but who He actually is as described in the Bible, you will discover who you really are.
2. When you get to know God personally, you will also find your purpose in life.
God chose you and He has plans for you. He made you to fill a specific role in the body of Christ but unless you put God first and really search for Him, you will never reach your full potential.
Repentance and baptism are two of the spiritual disciplines that put us back on God's path. Our determination to follow Christ in both will open the doors of heaven above us.
Live your life with God first.
