When You Pray
7 Truths About Prayer

Prayer is powerful. There is no other way to release the power of heaven into your life. All the resources of heaven are available for your use (Matt. 26:53).
Prayer is a privilege. We don't have to pray, we get to pray. There are no off limit topics in our conversations with God. Anything we are concerned about is something we can take to the throne room of God and receive wisdom, power, and comfort.
Prayer is a pleasure. When the storms of life are raging, you can find joy in the presence of God (Psalm 16:11). There is nothing too big or too small to share with God. He is always there for you. All you have to do is talk to Him.
There is no magic formula or secret family recipe for prayer. It is not an option or a negotiating tool. Prayer is an opportunity for you to talk to the Lord God Almighty about everything in your life.
In the book of Matthew, Jesus teaches us about prayer.
And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
Matthew 6:5 NKJV
The words "when you pray" tell us that prayer is not optional. When you pray says that we are expected to pray. God is waiting for us to talk to Him. Prayer is intended for an audience of One. Prayer is not a performance for the benefit of others. It is not a one act play with you as the main character. Anytime we put on a show in front of others and call it praying, we forfeit the involvement of God. In other words, the reward for our prayers is limited to only the praise of men and it has nothing to do with God (Luke 18:10).

Matthew 6:7 NKJV
Any conversation with God is prayer. It doesn't have to be long or complex. It can be a simple as a "Help me, Jesus!" Or as long as you need it to be to get something off your chest. The Lord is our greatest Friend and He is always there for us, 24/7. No matter what you need or what time of day it is, the Holy Spirit is with you and He wants to listen.

Prayer is not just something you check off of your to do list. Prayer is a way of life. To pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) simply means you talk to God about everything you do and every choice you make. This can seem like a daunting task if you view prayer as an obligation.
Prayer is your personal encounter with the Lord God Almighty.
Live God first.
