A Chuckle
Have you ever had one of those times when God is reminding you about something but it takes you a few days to understand Him? It happened to me this morning and it has kept me chuckling all day.
I spend some time every morning in the Word and the last few days I have been reading chapters 3, 4, and 5 in the book of Galatians before going to work. In chapter 3 Paul talks about the futility of trying to earn God's blessings by following religious laws. It is our belief in Jesus and our acceptance of what He has done for us that makes us right with God. In Chapter 5 Paul reminds the Galatians that rule keeping does not produce righteousness. We have been set free from religious rules by Jesus Christ.
I worked 12 hour shifts the last three days and was on for eight hours today. We were really busy and I literally ran from the beginning to the end of my shifts. Yesterday, I began to feel like God was not with me at work and this morning, I started complaining to God. This is pretty much how our conversation went:
Me: "Father, I really don't like working so many days in a row. I feel like I don't get to spend enough time with You when my schedule is like this."
God: "Where do I go when your working?"
Me: "Well, You are with me but I like it better when I'm off and I can sit down and take my time hanging out with You. It makes me feel so much closer to You. I can't do that on the days I'm working."
God: "So, we can't be close when you are at work because you don't get to spend enough time with Me?"
That was when I realized that I was limiting my access to God at work based on the amount of time I spent with Him in the morning. I laughed out loud at my foolishness and smiled in appreciation of God's patience. I lost sight of the fact that God is always fully with me -irregardless of how much time I spend with Him in the morning. He doesn't hold Himself back from me, no matter what. God used the book of Galatians to remind me of that all weekend but I did not "get it" until this morning.
Have you ever had this happen to you? I would love to hear about it.
Open your life to God and enjoy the journey.
