Worship
Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool --He is holy.
Psalm 99:5 NKJ
People singing praise to God is the picture that comes to mind when the topic of worship is mentioned. We tend to think of it as the time at the beginning of church when the music is played. There is more to worship than music. It is an attitude of the heart that acknowledges the value of something or someone. We can worship anything but we are called to worship only One.
When we limit our worship of God, we limit our relationship with God.
The word "worship" in this verse means to bow down in reverence or when paying homage. It is a sign of respect and submission to the Lord God Almighty.
Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10 NKJ
Our greatest act of worship is when we sit silently with God and let Him speak to our heart. With our thoughts silent and hearts open to God, we allow Him the opportunity to work in us and teach us. This is not an activity that engages your mind, although there may be times that you will understand concepts as your heart responds to God.
When we sit and focus quietly on God, He molds and shapes our hearts with love and wisdom. Then as we live each day with Him and read His word, we see the work He has begun within us manifest in our actions.
How we respond to God's constant presence can also be an act of worship. When God tells us to do something, do we do it? Obedience is as much a part of worship as singing and silence are.
Acts of worship also include taking control of our thoughts (Phil. 4:8), being careful with our words (Jude 20-21) and serving people both within and outside of the church walls (James 1:27; Rom. 12:10 and 1 Peter 2:17).
Worship is part of the foundation of a God first life.
