Still
I sat down yesterday with God intending to write a blog post. That did not happen. My plan did not match with God's plan. His reply to my question about what He wanted to talk about was met with silence.
Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10
This verse came to my mind. So I sat quietly with Him. It was then I realized that I was slipping back into thinking my relationship with God was based on me "doing" instead of me "being."
God is not impressed with what I can do. What matters most to Him is that whatever I am "doing" that I include Him and rely on His help. This can be difficult if I don't spend any time paying attention to Him.
God wants our hearts but with it He also wants our attention. Those set apart quiet moments with God are where some of our greatest growth occurs.
How can we grow and change by doing nothing except sitting with God? The answer lies in the fact that God is not like people.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord.
Isa. 55:8 Amplified
God loves us no matter what we say or do, no matter how big a mess we make. He does not care where we've been or where we are.
God forgives us every single time we ask Him to. He does not hold grudges or punish us because Jesus took that instead.
He gives us strength to overcome everything we struggle with - addictions of any kind, anger, laziness, insecurity, greed, parenting, impatience and whatever else you may be dealing with.
God gives us wisdom to make good choices and live above our feelings. He shows us the way we should go and prepares us for what is ahead.
God accepts and desires us. He knows every secret we hold in our heart and still He wants us. The most intimate moments of our life are the quiet ones we spend with God.
The busyness of life will demand our full attention but without those times of stillness with God, we tend to forget how much we need Him and how much He loves us.
In silence God calls to us. In silence we can respond to the greatest gift God has given us - Himself.
Be still with God.
