The Cross is Enough 3
All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has made to light upon Him the guilt and iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, [yet when] He was afflicted, He was submissive and opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth. By oppression and judgment He was taken away; and as for His generation, who among them considered that He was cut off out of the land of the living [stricken to His death] for the transgression of my [Isaiah’s] people, to whom the stroke was due?
Isaiah 53:6-8 Amplified
We all fall short of the glory of God. We make bad decisions, act selfishly, say cruel and hurtful things, and do things with hidden motives and agendas. We struggle to get our own way and get frustrated and angry at others when we don't. We are quick to blame and judge each other even when we are guilty of the same thing.
Every sin has a consequence and some of those we have to live out. But there is a cost that we cannot pay on our own.
Sin keeps us apart from God. The only Way we can have a personal relationship with God is by partnering with Jesus. See, Jesus has already suffered the consequences of our sin - something we could never do on our own. He is the perfect spotless Lamb. His suffering, His blood, His death, and His resurrection have completely removed all evidence of our sin in the eyes of God.
When Jesus was taken into custody in the garden, He did not fight the mob that came to get Him. He went willingly. He did not argue with them or defend Himself. When people laughed at Him, insulted Him, and told lies about Him - He said nothing.
Now let's think about this as it applies to our own lives. When we come under attack, our first response is to tell everyone our side of the story. We try to defend and justify ourselves even if we have done something wrong. We deny our bad behavior or try to blame someone else for "making us" do it. We really don't need to do any of these things. Jesus didn't. He let God take care of His accusers and even went so far as to ask God to forgive them as He hung on the cross.
At first we may say that we don't have what it takes to imitate Jesus in these kinds of situations but the power of God given to us through the cross is enough.
The Cross is enough to heal our hurts and sicknesses, remove all our sin, and strengthens us to go through difficult times.
