Sincerely

I have been hooked on two verses the for the last two days.  They are still on the topic of love and I'm not sure how long we will focus on them but let's get started.

[Let your] love be sincere (a real thing); hate what is evil [loathe all ungodliness, turn in horror from wickedness], but hold fast to that which is good.  Love one another with brotherly affection [as members of one family], giving precedence and showing honor to one another.
                              Romans 12:9-10 Amplified

Jesus was sincere in His love for hurting, broken, and sick people.  He was always reaching out toward those that had been discarded by people.

Every person is greatly loved by God.  Our feelings about God do not affect His love for us.  He loves us all the time - angry, sad, happy, grieving, good or bad - He loves us.  God may not like everything we do but that does not change His love for us at all.

Our decision to love people like God does arises out of our desire to be more like Jesus.  There are several things that contribute to this decision but the bottom line is that we must be sincere.  The Bible warns that even if we are doing 'good' things, if we are doing them with wrong motives then they are worthless.  They do not impress God and they will yield no fruit.

Our love for others is to be sincere.  That means it should be real and genuine.  We cannot have hidden motives or agendas.  We are to be open and honest about who we are and we are to accept people just as they are.  We are not here to fix one another, fixing is God's job.  We are called to love.  God wants our hearts actively engaged in our commitment to love people.

The word 'sincere' literally means ''without wax."  It's meaning began with statue makers who in an effort to hide cracks or blemishes on their statues, would fill the them with wax.  The wax would hide the imperfections from potential buyers so the seller could put a higher price on it.  The more "perfect" the piece was, the more money they could make.

Our love for others reflects the love of Christ (it is perfect) when we sincerely want to do it as a service to God who has loved us so well and who has overlooked our own faults and weaknesses.  It will take a lot of practice but I promise that God will help you.

God does not ask us to do anything that we cannot do.  Philippians 4:13 says we can do ALL things through Christ and that literally means ALL THINGS.  We can be sincere in our love for one another by refusing to let our own thoughts or opinions get in the way of our service to God.

Love sincerely with all your heart.  Put effort into it and watch God meet and match and multiply your efforts to produce a harvest of love in your life that you cannot contain.
