You're Beautiful
There are thousands of verses in the Bible that deal with the heart. They are some of the most passionate, powerful, and beautiful scriptures that when applied in our lives can bring about great joy and peace. I have been planted in one verse for the last week:
But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit , which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.
1 Peter 3:4 Amplified
Peter is telling us that outer appearances do not constitute true beauty and that God can see past the display we show to the world (our outer man) to the inner part of us. God sees our heart. He not only sees it but He knows and understands it like no other person in the world can.
The outer person is who we show to the world around us. For many years, my outer person looked nothing like what I carried within me. I did not like myself and this inner self loathing made me impatient, critical and very judgmental. I was also miserable and depressed. At the time, I thought I hid it all pretty well because my outer man was always smiling and willing to help but there was an edge to me that I did not understand. This disharmony created a lot of tension and turmoil in my life.
Whenever we try to hide things in our heart - whether they are motives, mistakes, or resentments - they will affect our behavior and the way we respond to things in such a way as to cause people to avoid us.
The is only one way to cure this imbalance and it is to harmonize your inner man and your outer man. And by that, I mean be honest with yourself, with God, and if necessary another person, about what is in your heart. Instead of trying to hide parts of yourself, open them up to God. Deal with things and don't just lock them in a closet. Do a thorough house cleaning and be transparent with God about what you've done, what's been done to you, and what you think. He already knows it all but He cannot help you with it until you come to Him and trust Him enough to help you grow past it.
A deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the key to restoring harmony between your inner man and your outer man. Work with God and change the habits and behaviors of the outer man to reflect the man or woman of God you were created to be. Refuse to let anything come between you and Christ.
True beauty comes from within you and radiates to the world around you.
