Fatness
I spent many years of my life trying to fill the desire for something "more," something that would satisfy me and make me happy. I looked in things, titles, positions, and people. I would think:
"If I had ______ then I would be happy." or
"If I had enough money for _______ then I would be happy." or
"If _______ loved and cherished (the hidden implied meaning here is that they would be perfect at it too) me then I would be happy."
Needless to say, this was a long and painful road of frustration and disappointment. Until I met Jesus.
Jesus changes everything.
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness [the profuseness of spiritual joy].
Isaiah 55:2 Amplified
There is nothing wrong with having stuff. God has given us free choice so we can decide what to spend our money on. But if we are using our money to acquire possessions in order to impress people, we are wrong. If we try to fill the emptiness within us with toys and gadgets, we are wrong. If we live to win the favor of people, we are wrong.
People and things will NEVER be enough to fill our lives with joy and delight our soul. Only Jesus can.
Before God made the world, He knew you. The end of your life was known from the beginning of time. He knew your struggles and your joys. He knew the sins that would keep you chained to death and He hasn't and doesn't want that. Sin and death keep you separated from God.
God wants you to share your life with Him.
So, here's Jesus. He took all the punishment you deserve for your every sin. Instead of sending you to stand alone before the judgment seat of God to face His holy wrath, Jesus went for you. He took your place and paid the price for your freedom from sin and death. He made the way for you to not only enter God's presence but to experience the joy and delight of life with Him.
The blood of Jesus washes you clean, removes every trace of your sin (past, present, and future), and makes you good enough to go boldly to the throne of God's grace. Only through Christ, can you live with God.
Jesus has met every requirement of the Law on your behalf. He has done everything that needs to be done. When He declared on the cross, "It is finished," He meant that everything that needed to be done has been done. The rest is up to you.
It's now up to you to take the mercy Christ has attained for you. It's up to you to claim the freedom Jesus died for you to have. It's up to you to pursue God, to hearken diligently to Him and experience for yourself the spiritual fatness that His Spirit provides.
Spiritual fatness is desired in God's kingdom. It is what keeps us above the storms of life and free from worry. This fatness in our spirit fills us with peace and joy in every circumstance. This is how Paul was able to praise God when he was chained in a prison that was filled with human waste. His spirit was fat with the promises of God. He found the eternal abundance that comes from living by faith in Christ.
Spiritual fatness is a characteristic of those who diligently seek God and purposefully share their lives with Him.
